introducing Pause…
18 October 2022
Today, we launch Pause, a beautiful confident fragrance that celebrates the wisdom, self-assurance and enlightenment of ageing and hormonal change. Hear from Abel Founder, Frances Shoemack, about how much this fragrance means to her and why she’s passionate about changing the dialogue around Perimenopause.
In my late 30’s I started noticing hormonal changes in an otherwise predictable rhythm. Night sweats, irregular moon cycle, and other changes that piqued my curiosity. When I began to research and learn about (peri)menopause, I felt like there was a huge gap in my knowledge and a total lack of community around this transformational change. Among girlfriends, sisters, or intergenerational women, all with whom I’m very open, I realised I’d never had a conversation about perimenopause. Not a single one.
“"Among girlfriends, sisters, or intergenerational women, all with whom I’m very open, I realised I’d never had a conversation about perimenopause. Not a single one."”
As it turns out Perimenopause is the years of hormonal flux that lead up to Menopause. It struck me that women in their late thirties and early forties don’t even realise this is something that impacts them. Instead, we all dread ‘The Menopause’ particularly because of its deeply engrained association with being old and irrelevant. As the precursory years to this unduly shameful signpost, it’s little wonder Perimenopause is shrouded in secrecy.
Having explored the opportunity to connect with motherhood through our fragrance Nuture (our first functional fragrance – to support pregnancy) I started researching and uncovering incredible information about essential oils and their role in supporting menopause. A quick call to Fanny (the Perfumer behind Nurture) who proclaimed “Oh wow, is that what this is!”, and the Pause creative process began.
So today, on World Menopause Day, I am thrilled to launch Pause – a functional fragrance with a carefully selected blend of essential oils designed to support hormonal change. A confident, rich and textured floral, the fragrance profile of Pause reflects the mission Fanny and I agreed on during that very first call – to bring vibrancy, vitality and sophistication back to this passage of womanhood. To take Perimenopause out of the shadows and illuminate it with a moment of pause in a time of beautiful evolution.
Let’s change the conversation.
